Glee, the hit series that launched in '09 on FOX, is a musical comedy-drama that takes us into the lives of a local high school's re-invigorated glee club. The glee club (called The New Directions) is getting into the local performance choir circuit and in the mean time its members are battling cultural, relationship, and sexuality issues.
The second season is currently airing on TV and the Glee Season 1 DVD was released this past fall. Given that, I thought I'd do a user review round-up on the Glee Season 1 DVD and show you exactly what you will be getting.
What They Like:
"Glee has created a completely new genre of television." - This is definitely one of the facets of Glee that truly makes it stand out from the rest of television. The idea of creating a musical comedy TV show is just incredibly unique and the way the directors combine pop music along with old school hits really makes the series stand out.
"She is so deliciously mean that you want to cheer her cruelty on!" - Sue is definitely a favorite of the viewers and she provides a big part of the laughter that makes Glee such a fun show to follow. Her lines are perfectly written and often maliciously cut into the other main adult star, Will Schuester.
"I can watch these episodes repeatedly and still find myself singing along and excited" - Once again, the musical nature of the series makes it astonishingly watchable. It's more or less comparable to watching a TV show that's littered with your favorite music videos - you love the music videos so much that you just can not stop watching the entire show.
What Makes Them Angry:
"Do not be mis-led by the numerous 1 star reviews... most are just unfounded opinions re: feeling forced into buying the 1st half of Season 1." - It looks like quite a few reviewers online are upset by the fact that the first half of season 1 was released on DVD and now a Glee DVD (or Blu-ray) for the complete 1st season has been released. This confuses me a bit though as a Glee DVD for the second half of season 1 was also released, enabling folks who bought the first half of the first season to round out their collection. That being said, the second volume of Glee season 1 is currently pricier than the complete first season, so that could be frustrating some purchasers.
